This annual festival started in 2000 with a small-scale concert to raise money for the restoration of St Thomas' Church, Parkgate. From then it has has become progressively more ambitious, and has raised almost £10,000 for Claire House Children's Hospice and the Wirral Churches' Ark Project. In a similar format to last year there will be an orchestral concert on the Saturday evening and a concert by the Pemberton Old Wigan Band on the Sunday. Proceeds will go to the charities mentioned above.
This Year's Programme
This year's orchestral programme will include Berlioz' Overture Les Francs-Juges, Dvorak's Slavonic Dance No.6, Saint Saens' First Cello Concerto and Brahms' Second Symphony. The concert will be conducted by Eric Jennings; the cello soloist will be Frédéric Steinbrüchel.
The concert by the Pemberton Old Wigan Band will include a variety of music from this Championship band's wide repertoire.
